The Summer of 2015 is sizzling hot at the Hartford Public Library with programs and activities for: parents, kids, teens and child care providers. On this website you will find information on programs, special events and other resources that will make your summer of learning a success!

Experts agree that children who read during the summer reduce the achievement gap and maintain the skills they learn during the school year.

Summer@HPL presents its annual Summer Learning Programs:

Program One
Join the Parent/Child Summer Learning Program! This program serves youth from Birth to age 5. fghhghgrttyt
Program Three
Join the Youth Summer Learning Program! This program serves youth ages 6 - 12.

Program Two
Join the Teen Summer Learning Program! This program serves youth ages 13 - 18.

Program Four
Join the Adult Summer Learning Program! This programs serves adults age 19+.

Each program is designed to address the literacy and summer reading needs of Hartford's youth and families during the all-important summer months of 2015.

Be sure to register using the button on the left to track your progress in reading and activities in order to earn rewards and be eligible for the grand prizes!

Friday, August 21 – Signed Copy of “Hartford Through Time,” a Hartford History Center publication.

Hartford Through TimeThis new book features over 90 before-and-after street scenes created from glass plate negatives from the collection of the Hartford History Center. These images were painstakingly processed by Library volunteers and staff, featuring captions by historian Wilson H. Faude and contemporary photography by Hartford News editor Andy Hart.

Wednesday, August 26 – Adult Summer Learning Grand Finale 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Downtown in the Hartford History Center.

Susan CampbellOur Grand Finale speaker, award-winning author Susan Campbell, will inspire us to free our inner voice through writing. Susan is currently working on a book for Wesleyan University Press on the Hartford neighborhood known as "Frog Hollow."

KindleWe will be giving away a Kindle Paperwhite, 6" high resolution display at the Adult Summer Learning Grand Finale. The name of one customer will be pulled from all entries received from June 6 to August 25.
